Josh Crawford

Where were you studying last year?

The school I attended before The Academy was Galen Catholic College.

How did you hear about the academy?

I heard about The Academy from a friend that saw it on social media. I checked it out online and then applied straight away.

All the boys have got to know each other over the past 10 weeks.

What was the application process like for you?

The process was simple and quick.

Did you have to convince your parents to let you attend or were they on board from the beginning?

No, they were pretty on board from the start, and were happy I wanted to give The Academy a go because they knew it wasn’t just like every other school.

So, how has your first term gone so far, is it everything you expected?

It’s going well and all the boys have gotten to know each other over the past 10 weeks. Lachy and I moved from Wangaratta to Melbourne to attend The Academy and we feel like we have settled in nicely. Learning how to cook has been good, as I’ve been putting the skills to good use cooking dinner for my house mate and I every night.

It’s great to be able to ask Alex about footy and get some good tips from someone that has played AFL.

What’s it like getting to hang out with footy legend Alex Rance while you’re at school?

It’s pretty cool and everyone back at home gets pretty jealous. It’s good to be able to ask Alex a bit about footy and get some good tips from someone that has played AFL.

What’s the best part of attending The Academy?

The best thing about attending The Academy compared to normal school is that at The academy I get to learn about what I’m interested in and also get to do fitness every day which is enjoyable.

What do you hope to do at the end of your studies at The Academy?

When I’m finished at The Academy I would love to be playing AFL or have been drafted to a team. If I don’t get drafted I would love to do something with Sports Management and work within the AFL.

If you could meet anyone famous (dead or alive) who would it be?

If I could meet anyone, I would love to meet either Michael Jordan or Roger Federer. I’ve seen Roger play live but haven’t met him.

Who is your biggest supporter?

My parents are my biggest supporters with my football and they encourage and attend most games.

What do you like to do when you’re not living and breathing footy?

When I’m not focused on football, I like to go play a bit of golf, play basketball or water ski, and last but not least motorbike riding. They are my main hobbies but I like to do pretty much anything with my mates.
