Top Tips for Aspiring Athletes!

A close up of students and balls at football training

Our High Performance Program focuses on personal growth and high performance to prepare students for the next step of their football journey as well as providing lifelong healthy habits.

For any aspiring AFL player some of our top tips for improving your performance include:

GYM

  1. Training Age: The earlier you start resistance training, the greater the improvements you will see throughout your football journey.
  2. Technique: Knowing what to do in the gyam is one thing, but executing with high quality and good technique is another.
  3. Training Structure: Knowing how to combine lower body, upper body, core and plyometric training into the bigger football training picture.

TRACK

  1. Movement Quality: More work doesn’t always mean more improvement.  Efficiency of movement will improve output.
  2. Resistance Training: Strength is a key underpinning principle that will influence your running capacity.
  3. Training Structure: Finding a way to combine acceleration, speed, deceleration, change of direction, agility, anaerobic and aerobic training into a single week.

SKILLS

  1. Control: Control of the ball while it is in the platform hand. Ensuring there is minimal ball movement, preparing for contact in a consistent way.
  2. Contact: Firm and consistent contact point on the ball to allow for a predictable spin and trajectory of the ball flight.
  3. Momentum: Moving through the ball will improve the penetration of the handball or kick. This will also allow the ball to travel in the desired direction even with disruptions.
