We know you’ve got a few questions that need clearing up so we’ve gone ahead and done the hard work for you!

[/vc_column_text][vc_accordion active_tab=”0″][vc_accordion_tab title=”Will The Academy be a place where my child will attend just for “fun”?” tab_id=”adbfdaa4-de32-7″][vc_column_text]

We take AFL and education seriously, why else would we have built an Academy for it!? We have designed the course and space as closely to an AFL club environment as possible. So while there will be chances for fun, we run a structured and disciplined course that constantly pushes and drives students to reach their best potential.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Why would The Academy benefit my child over school?” tab_id=”2941e115-bd0c-1″][vc_column_text]Our research with AFL coaches suggests that players arriving at the club aren’t as technically sound or durable at the start of their careers. Traditionally, players cruise through development at 16 & 17 and then all of a sudden have a lot of pressure and intensity at the age of 18 which can cause injury and stress on the body. The Academy uses fitness testing equipment that is commonly utilised in an AFL setting and develops a program to build strength and intensity gradually over the two-year period to ensure they are at peak physical fitness at drafting age.

The curriculum has been designed with AFL Industry experts and uses a range of current policies, procedures and education programs currently in the AFL system to educate students and contextualise their learning experience.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=” Will The Academy interfer with TAC and other AFL commitments?” tab_id=”e88587eb-b6e4-2″][vc_column_text]No, once we receive permission from the student and their parent or guardian, we aim to share information with the students TAC or another team to collaborate information and progress with them so they are informed about the player’s performance. The Academy is here to strengthen and improve player’s performance throughout their time with the Academy.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Will The Academy get my child drafted?” tab_id=”f0659e59-b957-0″][vc_column_text]

There are only 2 guarantees in life, death and taxes. We cannot guarantee that your child will be drafted. However, we believe that our curriculum and training methods are the closest simulated AFL environment available. With our curriculum designed by a current AFL player along with many industry experts and our strength and conditioning coach also at a current AFL side, we feel we can give your child the best head start to their journey to the AFL.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”What are the entry requirements for the Academy?” tab_id=”28a46e7a-a397-2″][vc_column_text]Prospective students will need to;

  • Complete an application and enrolment form.
  • Complete a language, literacy and numeracy test and achieve a minimum score of a level three according to the Australian Core Skills Framework.
  • Demonstrate that they play a high level of junior AFL.

Once the prospective student’s application is successful, and they are enrolled in the program, the student will need to undertake;

  • A program induction
  • A series of fitness tests*
  • A personality test*

*Fitness tests and the personality tests are used in the assessments and are an essential part of the Academy learning program.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Is everybody who meets those requirements accepted into the Academy?” tab_id=”ac41cadb-0d65-3″][vc_column_text]No. The Academy has limited spaces and will only invite a selected amount to enrol.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”What qualifications does my child receive from completing this program?” tab_id=”a1f5452e-4b0b-9″][vc_column_text]Upon successful completion of assessments in year one, your child will complete the Intermediate Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning.

Upon successful completion of assessments in year two, your child will complete the Senior Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning.

Can they still go to University?” tab_id=”20e40627-15ba-5″][vc_column_text]No. The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning does not issue an ATAR score upon completion.

Your child will still be eligible to apply as a mature student to University. The age requirements and policies for mature-age entry differ across institutions, so you should check with the institutions you are applying to.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Will my child get enough attention?” tab_id=”b8e9a971-0cb4-10″][vc_column_text]

Enrolments will cap at 25 per intake, allowing us to have the best student-teacher ratio to ensure each student has enough attention to thrive. Your child will never be just another number, we don’t want just to educate and improve their athletic ability, we want to help them to be better people in our community.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Can my child do the program part time?” tab_id=”5798f058-ac7b-0″][vc_column_text]No. This is a full-time education program.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”What does a strength a conditioning program involve? ” tab_id=”87b4d4c8-b7aa-1″][vc_column_text]

The Academy Strength and Conditioning program involves a movement screen to assess athletic movement and prescribe individual exercises to prevent injury.  In conjunction with this, the student-athletes will have GPS units to monitor loads and give feedback on performance.  They will do regular strength and conditioning sessions to compliment their weekly football programs and to build a base for success in years to come.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Who oversees/supervises the strength and conditioning program and what are their qualifications?” tab_id=”ddad907b-59a5-6″][vc_column_text]

[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”How will you ensure my child will not be overloaded and cause an injury?” tab_id=”07b3ada7-80df-0″][vc_column_text]

Fatigue and overload is a common occurrence for 16-19-year-olds who are pursuing their sporting dreams.  The old adage of doing more to get better isn’t necessarily true.  To prevent both physical and mental burnout, the Academy students will monitor their GPS results to manage their training loads and fill out regular wellness questionnaires to give the student and teacher a constant overall picture of their well-being.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”What fitness tests will be conducted and how will these fitness tests be used?” tab_id=”f86aa4ae-147a-8″][vc_column_text]

Fitness test will be the standard fitness tests used at the AFL combine… These include.
a.    Vertical Jump tests
b.    20m sprint
c.     The AFL Agility Test
d.    Beep Test
e.    Repeat 30m Sprint
f.     3000m Time Trial
The fitness tests will be used to compare the students against AFL combine norms and to track progression throughout the year.  Each student will create their own Athletic passport to display their performance capabilities for years to come.
