THE ACADEMY PROGRAM

The curriculum at The Academy is tailored in a way that allows students to take a proactive approach to their education.

Designed for more practical learners, we’re removing the stigma associated with VCAL and proving that a real-world education is the key to success.

The students that enrol at The Academy do so because they are passionate about AFL. For two years, they’ll be placed in an AFL-simulated environment that focuses on personal growth and high performance to prepare them for the next step of their life and football journey.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

DISCOVERY

The first phase in our Year 11’s journey lays a solid foundation of self awareness and passion-based education, improving engagement through The Academy Culture

Qualification: VCAL Intermediate (VCALINT001)

GROWTH

The middle phase sees students master their individual learning and leadership styles, becoming aware of the opportunities which are now possibilities.

Qualification: VCAL Senior (VCALSEN001) & Certificate III in Sports & Recreation (SIS30115)

LAUNCH PAD

This final phase in our year 12’s journey acts as a platform to prepare them for the next steps of their journey, designed to lift the stress and anxiety students experience transitioning into the real world. Launch Pad provides the following advantages:
– Investigate different pathway options.
– Develop planning and research skills.
– Consolidate students’ purpose and passion.

Qualification: Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation (22313VIC)

WHERE ARE THE ACADEMY CAMPUSES?

The Academy has three campuses in Victoria:

– Essendon: 902 Mt Alexander Road, Essendon
– Geelong: 37-61 Vines Road, Hamlyn Heights
– Wangaratta: Barr Reserve

WHY WOULD THE ACADEMY BENEFIT MY CHILD OVER HIS CURRENT SCHOOL?

The curriculum at The Academy is designed to engage students through their passion for AFL. Our carefully designed academic curriculum embraces this passion and sees students thrive when taught using a language they easily understand: FOOTY!

Our High Performance Program prepares talented young athletes for transition into a possible professional playing career. We use AFL-level fitness testing equipment and training programs to build strength and intensity gradually over two years to ensure students reach peak physical fitness at drafting age.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR THE ACADEMY?

The Academy is currently offered for boys only. Girls’ campuses are coming soon.

Students of all ages may apply for The Academy. We recommend families begin considering The Academy when their student is in year 9 to avoid missing out on our limited places.

WHEN DO STUDENTS ATTEND THE ACADEMY?

Students attend The Academy just like a regular school, with term dates synced with Victorian Government schools’ calendar.

Daily timetable operates between 9:00am-3:30pm (approximately).

WILL THE ACADEMY INTERFERE WITH NAB LEAGUE AND OTHER FOOTBALL COMMITMENTS?

No. The Academy works closely with students’ NAB/Local teams to collaborate on their performance development. The Academy aims to strengthen and improve players’ performance throughout their time with the Academy.

CAN THE ACADEMY BE COMPLETED PART TIME?

No. The Academy is a full-time education program.

HOW MUCH DOES THE ACADEMY COST?

Indicative annual fees for the 2021 academic year range between $5000-$7000 (depending on concessions). Families can choose to pay this amount in full or set up a payment plan.

Annual fees cover tuition fees, learning materials and resources, GPS license, fitness facility memberships, and some excursions and incursions.

A $600 non-refundable deposit is required to confirm a student’s place (if offered). This will be used to purchase the student’s uniform starter pack during the enrolment and onboarding process.

Students will also be required to purchase a digital device (e.g. laptop or tablet) to use in class.

ARE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?

Yes, each campus has multiple scholarships available ranging from 100%-50% off student fees.

Students and families will be notified of the scholarship application process from the September prior to the student’s year of commencement.

CAN GRADUATES STILL PATHWAY TO FURTHER STUDY AT UNIVERSITY?

Absolutely!

By completing the Launch Pad phase of the The Academy program, students receive a Cert IV in Tertiary Preparation which many university courses accept as their minimum entry requirement.

Students also work with the Student Journey team to explore which courses are best suited to them and prepare applications.
